MISCELLANEOUS 2022 WRESTLING

JIMMY’Z (RYO JIMMY SAITO, GENKI HORIGUCHI HAGeeMee, JIMMY SUSUMU, JIMMY KAGETORA & JIMMY KANDA w K-NESS) VS DON FUJI, DRAGON KID, KENICHIRO ARAI, MAASAKI MOCHIZUKI & KONO MAMA ICHIKAWA – DRAGON GATE MARCH 3RD 2022

We know K-Ness is hanging up the boots soon and as upsetting it is not having him be an actual competitor in this match it was simply superb that he was able to inject himself and land a couple spots including a sweet enzuigiri. I’m not a DG guy these days but I was 5-6 years ago when the JIMMYZ were running rampant in their prime and I must say the JIMMYZ days was peak of DG for me. The roster is completely different as opposed to five years ago which I give credit to DG for as they’ve really handed the ball to the younger generation within DG but these ten veterans just reminded me why I loved DG of yesteryear so much.

To hear the Jimmy’z theme song after a few year absence was great, seeing all the guys back together again made me very happy. This was one of the matches I just sat in front of my PC with a massive grin on my face in enjoyment. Not a match where I need to break down the intricacies of but a match that I recommend all of you watch regardless. I wish it went longer then it actually did because it was great but I understand that on a DG show this is very much just an undercard match with the added emotion of K-Ness being there.

A few announcements were made by Kanda and K-Ness following the match. The K-Ness retirement match will be Kzy and Dragon Kid taking on K-Ness and Susumu Yokosuka one last time as well as the second Toryumon reunion show was announced for June. I don’t watch a lot of Dragon Gate but there is no way I will be missing that show so I’ll be signing up for the Dragon Gate subscription service for sure.

TAKUYA NOMURA VS SATSUKI NAGAO – ZERO1 MARCH 6TH 2022

Feels like just yesterday Takuya Nomura was in this same position as Nagao, just a freak rookie that could hang with the big boys. Nagao is the next Takuya Nomura and I’ve said that since I saw his debut match, I believe he was out with injury last year but wow he’s come back and looks tremendous in ring. Nomura takes control early just beating the piss out of the young guy with brutal kicks to the spine. Nagao fires back with a few well timed elbows before executing a snap suplex. Nagao is getting a lot of time to shine and look impressive, all of his strikes look strong which isn’t a thing every rookie can say. Nomura fired back with a perfect dropkick to the face then it was all over from there basically as things ended with a single leg Boston crab not long later. Look forward to these guys wrestling each other for years to come.

THE GREAT SASUKE VS YUMEHITO IMANARI – GANBARE PRO FEBRUARY 27TH 2022

Started with the usual modern day Sasuke antics, the clap crowd hampers his style of comedy but after two years now I think we are used to it as annoying as that fact is. Sasuke was out with injury during January but he looked really good here like his not doing moonsaults and stuff but he is running the ropes respectfully enough. Pretty sure Chris Brookes was on commentary for this one, learned to respect Brookes the last year or so due to his love of indie puro. I don’t actually watch DDT so I don’t see him wrestle but the things he is apart of are usually enjoyable. Imanari is impressing me following a superplex followed by a fisherman suplex for a near fall. Sasuke hits a perfect old school piledriver, glad to see he is embracing his age and adjusting his move set accordingly. SASUKE SPECIAL VERSION X 10.2 OUTTA NOWHERE!

SASUKE MISSES A TOP ROPE SENTON TO THE OUTSIDE AND LANDS FLAT ON HIS BACK ON THIN MATS!! That would have hurt like so much. Imanari brings Sasuke back inside the squared circle to nail a Tiger driver for a close near fall. Imanari pins Sasuke with a lariat! Very cool finish, love Sasuke so so much!

  1. I recently came across your site which has helped me find more alternatives to places I am more familiar with like New Japan, NOAH/DDT and All Japan which I appreciate your match recommendations aswell as your insights and dedication to the puro indy scene, I don’t have twitter or anything like that to ask this but would you by any chance name your top indy promotions currently and why?
